Shelby Mounts

Advisor, Washington Cyber Roundtable

 

Shelby Mounts is Director of Business Development at ATI, a specialty materials company based in Pittsburgh, PA. His primary responsibilities include growth of ATI’s Defense portfolio. A retired Navy Captain, helicopter pilot and squadron commander, and graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Shelby earned a Master of Science degree from the University of San Diego Business School.  Additionally, he spent a year-long immersed in Shell Oil company as a Secretary of Defense Corporate Fellow.

 

Following the fellowship, he returned to the Pentagon as a special adviser to the Navy Director, Operations and Plans with emphasis on risk and cyber.  In that role he studied organizational gaps and war fighting impacts of the Navy’s nascent Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare (EMW) concept of operations. This evolving area of war fighting addresses emerging technical and operational challenges related to cyber and electronic warfare in congested and contested environments.

Shelby also served as the Navy Service Representative to the Defense Business Board where he assisted in development of independent, corporate advice founded on best business practice for the Secretary of Defense. Primary focus areas included innovative culture and corporate partnership development.  Additional responsibilities included advising the Chief of Naval Personnel and Commander, Naval Education and Training on talent management initiatives. 

 

Other staff assignments included strategic planning in the J-8 at US Special Operations Command and Air Warfare requirements and resource management on the Navy Staff at the Pentagon.  He brings a wealth of planning, strategy, and operational leadership skills and a balance of government and industry experience.
